07 Oct Happy October Year 3s!
Good afternoon and happy October Year 3 families!
In literacy we created some beautiful pieces of art, inspired by Anthony Browne’s illustrations in Gorilla. We also looked a bit at fronted adverbials of time as well.
In maths we finished off our unit on place value and began looking a bit at addition and subtraction. This will be our next unit in maths.
In Science we used the dictionaries that we created earlier in the unit to help us to describe some of the rocks we have in class. We looked at many different pieces of interesting vocabulary to help us to describe what makes rocks different from one another.
In RE we looked more about the Bible’s big story, this time learning about the gospels. We made up our own drama performances about our own modern day parables.
Most of the students in the class should have their accounts working by now. I’ve also sent home logins for the students as well. Some people have had difficulty logging on to our online resources. When logging into typing club or prodigy you will need to type your child’s username (the one ending in .206) then follow it with @stmarys.islington.sch.uk it should work with that.
This week we continue our homework. I have sent home a homework book that children can complete their homework in. What I am going to be expecting is for children to practice their spellings throughout the week. We will be having a Spelling Test every Friday. When completing their homework, children should practice the ‘Look, say, cover, write, check’ method. I would like all children to write each word out 3 times. Finally, for maths I would like children to use times tables rockstars to practice their times tables for homework. This will help them when they get to their Times Tables test, which we have every Thursday. I would like you to please take a photo of your children’s work they complete in their homework books and send me a photo of the work by direct message on Dojo. I would like this to be completed by Tuesday.
Children should know what groups they are in for spellings:
Group 1: (Words with the long /ai/ sound spelt with ey)
1) hey
2) they
3) obey
4) grey
5) prey
6) whey
7) survey
8) convey
9) disobey
10) purvey
Group 2: (The sounds /l/ and /k/, /z/ spelt ‘ll’, ‘zz’ and ‘ck’)
1) well
2) pull
3) full
4) wall
5) buzz
6) fizz
7) back
8) stick
9) flick
10) pal
Have a good weekend,
Mr. Cota
