Music

Home > Curriculum  > More Curriculum  > Curriculum 1 > Music

At St Mary’s we recognise that music is very much part of everyday life and can be a life-long passion for some people. We demonstrate a commitment to Music through our use of a dedicated teacher who works in our school to deliver music.

Children from Reception upwards learn to sing and interpret a wide range of vocal repertoire with increasing challenge and technique, whilst children from years 1-6 are also exposed to whole class instrumental teaching.

We have the opportunity to sing together as a whole school each day during our Collective Worship time, this is very special to us and we constantly work to improve our performance and repertoire. Every Tuesday our Collective Worship has a Singing Praise focus.

We also have two school choirs and a school band led by our very own head teacher. The children in our choirs and band get to perform regularly at school and Church, share their talents across our wider community, and perform at professional events.

All of our children have the opportunity to perform in our Christmas productions, whole class assemblies and many special assemblies during the year – where children have the opportunity to play alongside our talented music teachers in school.

How to help your child at home

There are many ways to support your child’s music learning at home. The songs for our assemblies and church services are found at the link below (for which children have their own logins) and they can practise their singing. For our school productions, your child may need help to learn the words and practise singing the songs at home.

Outside of school, there are also many local music teachers who are able to provide different instrumental lessons.
