23 Sep Wonderful Week!
Dear Parents/Guardians
We have been having a wonderful short week in Year 1, but still managed to get some fun work in.
In English we stared by describing how Beegus is feeling in one of our pages out of the book. Year 1 came up with some creative ways to describe Beegus emotions. We also discussed what we liked and disliked about the book. To prepare for us writing a poem we did hot-seating. Every learner wrote a question they wanted to ask Beegu and some learners took turns playing in role of Beegu and answering their questions. They really enjoyed pretending to be an alien. We then wrote our own poems based on what Beegus is feeling being on earth all alone. I am so proud of how well they came up with different ways to describe Beegus emotions and used very interesting vocab and sentences.
In math’s we have been comparing objects and learnt about greater than, less than sand equal to and even learnt the symbols >, < and =. I introduced Mr. Gator and how big numbers make him make him shout for more where little numbers make his tummy sore. Year 1 caught on so quickly and understood that the crocodile only eats the big numbers. They really enjoyed the practical lessons we did on greater than and less than.
In RE we looked at how when God created our world he asked humans to protect it and keep it beautiful. We discussed what responsibilities we have to keep our world clean and how to treat it. We then looked at our school and discussed what we need to do keep our school clean and respect it.
In PSHE we learnt about sun-safety and all the things we need to do to protect pour bodies from the sun.
In Geography we learnt about maps and why they are so important. Year 1 looked at a map of our classroom and on the map somethings were missing so Year 1 had to go and find the missing things and draw them on their map.
In DT we finished making our windmills. They all came out awesome and the turbine actually moves.
