27 Jun Year 6 Trip – Ben Kinsella Exhibition
As part of our PSHE topic ‘Keeping safe out and about’ Year 6 visited The Ben Kinsella Exhibition and attended the workshop that educates young people about the consequences of carrying a knife and how to make positive choices to stay safe. The workshop is made up of 5 interactive rooms which included:
Room 1: Meeting Ben: In ‘Ben’s Room’ Year 6 found out about what Ben was like and what they have in common with him:
Room 2: The Impact of Knife Crime: In the ‘Cinema room’ we watched a documentary about the night of Ben’s murder and the effect it had on his family, friends and a whole community.
Room 3: Consequences and Choices: In the ‘Consequences Room’ the children learnt about joint enterprise, the laws surrounding knife crime, what to do if someone is stabbed and the consequences of negative choices.
Room 4: Prison Life: We then step into the prison cell, where an actor described the reality of what life in prison is truly like.
Room 5: Discussion and Role Play: At the end we took part in a role play session using a large comic strip and discussed how to say no and identify good or bad friends. We finished the workshop by being asked to sign a pledge to never carry a knife.
