St Mary's Curriculum

We aim for our children to grow into responsible people who can positively contribute to their school community and beyond, as well as work co-operatively with others developing a continued love for learning.

English

They explore high-quality texts right from Reception to Year 6, as well as rigorously practising the skills needed to access reading and writing.

History

History is coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively providing the necessary knowledge and skills for the pupils’ future to empower them to take their role as informed and active citizens in the 21st century.

Maths

Both staff and pupils understand the importance of automaticity and fluency within maths and this is taught through real life contexts to enable pupils to apply their understanding, reason about maths, problem solve and make connections across the subject and the wider curriculum.

Design and Technology

We aim to inspire pupils to be innovative and creative thinkers who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation, and evaluation.

Religious Education

Our teaching of RE enables children to extend their own sense of values and promotes their spiritual growth and development. We encourage the children to reflect on their own views in relation to the themes covered in the curriculum.

Physical Education

At St Mary’s we believe it is important that as children grow and develop, they understand the importance of physical activity in developing and maintaining their health and well-being. We provide a full curriculum that supports pupils to become physically confident, reinforce health and fitness and develop individual talent.

PSHE

We aim for our children to have the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active, positive and successful role in today’s diverse society.

Science

Relevant and meaningful Science ensures that our pupils relate the science they are learning to their own lives as well as working with contexts in the wider world.

Geography

Geography is coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively providing the necessary knowledge and skills for the pupils’ future to empower them to take their role as informed and active citizens in the 21st century.

Spanish
